Bio:

Pudloo Samayualie is a multi-disciplinary artist born in Kinngait (Cape Dorset), Nunavut in 1977.

Samayualie comes from a family of well-known artists: her maternal grandparents are renowned sculptors Qababuwa and Taraya Tunnillie; her paternal grandmother is Keeleemeeoomie Samayualie; artist Elijakota Samayualie was an aunt.

Encouraged by her father, Samayualie began drawing in high school. She experimented with different media, including animation, printmaking and the making of jewellery.

In 2001, Samayualie travelled to Banff for a drawing workshop. In 2007, she took part in the National Film Board animation workshop in her hometown of Kinngait (Cape Dorset). Samayualie also attended Arctic College, where she studied jewellery making.

The subjects of Samayualie’s works are the architectural details of the interiors and exteriors of buildings, the landscapes of her home area in Kinngait and the places that she has travelled. 

Her detailed works and designs have appeared on commercial packaging and products.

In 2012, Pudloo’s print “Amiarutit (Brushes)” was chosen for the Cape Dorset Annual Print Collection. In 2016, she had a two-week artist residency at the Brooklyn Museum in New York. The following year, she held her very first solo exhibition, “Padloo Samayualie: North and South” at Feheley Fine Arts in Toronto.

Samayualie’s work is held in public collections nationally and internationally, including the Winnipeg Art Gallery, Canada and the Richard F. Brush Museum in Canton, United States.
